چکیده
cent initiatives involving social psychology applications in the aviation world have redoubled the interest in ept of teams and teamwork. The importance of teamwork in airline cockpits, hailed as cockpit (or crew-) management (CRM), has been recognized for a relatively long time. It is also widely agreed that extensive ctive interaction among participants in the National Airspace System (NAS), pilots, air traffic controllers, ine operations personnel, is tantamount to the daily successes of the nation’s air transportation industry. pects in air traffic control (ATC) are, however, much more convoluted than intra-cockpit teams or top-level rk between NAS elements. The ATC system involves a complicated network of facilities, technology, and el, which all must interact synergistically, often under time pressure, to ensure safe, efficient, and orderly air traffic. It is perhaps due to this complexity that there has been a significant deficiency in research activity to teamwork in ATC. Yet, inadequate coordination between controllers has been considered a causal factor stantial proportion of low to moderate severity operational errors. Furthermore, automation tools developed rollers are primarily focused on supporting the individual controller, while many, if not all of ATC functions m effort. In this paper we review the literature relevant to the team concept in the ATC domain, identify and rize the different teams controllers belong to either simultaneously (e.g., intraand inter-facility teams) or in t operational environments, and catalog the results from research literature as they pertain to the aforemeneams in ATC and their specific characteristics. Our principal focus is on concepts such as taskload, workd situation awareness. Within this framework, we also map recent automation applications to ATC teams, ghlighting their impact on the team dimension of human factors in ATC.

Analysis of work patterns as a foundation for human- automation communication in multiple remote towers
Implicit communication and higher levels of automation will be more important in the future multiple remote towers, in order to make the work of the Air Traffic Controller (ATCO) more efficient. However, the ATCO still needs to be in the control loop to make critical decisions. Human-automation collaboration requires teamwork, based on common ground and implicit communication. To design automat...
متن کاملTeamwork Coordination
In this paper we examine human tasks in controlling UAV teams by considering their computational complexity in the number of UAVs. This analysis suggests that controlling or following fine grained cooperation among many subteams of UAVs is the most difficult task and probably beyond human capabilities for most sizes of teams. We introduce Machinetta, a teamwork system that automates fine graine...

We investigated the effects of automation as applied to different stages of information processing on team performance in a complex decision-making task. Forty teams of 2 individuals performed a simulated Theater Defense Task. Four automation conditions were simulated with computer assistance applied to realistic combinations of information acquisition, information analysis, and decision select...
متن کاملSelf-Organization and Self-Coordination in Welding Automation with Collaborating Teams of Industrial Robots
In welding automation, growing interest can be recognized in applying teams of industrial robots to perform manufacturing processes through collaboration. Although robot teamwork can increase profitability and cost-effectiveness in production, the programming of the robots is still a problem. It is extremely time consuming and requires special expertise in synchronizing the activities of the ro...
متن کاملTeamwork in multi-person systems: a review and analysis.
As the scope and complexity of modern task demands exceed the capability of individuals to perform, teams are emerging to shoulder the burgeoning requirements. Accordingly, researchers have striven to understand and enhance human performance in team settings. The purpose of this review is to summarize that research, from the theoretical underpinnings that drive it, to the identification of team...
